Josef Frank
Last week, you might have noticed some colorful, whimsical designs on Google's homepage. It was a tribute to the 125th birthday of Josef Frank (he died in 1967.) Frank left an incredible legacy to architecture, glassware, lighting, metalwork, and textile design--he moved fluidly and freely between these mediums and founded the Vienna School of Architecture with Oskar Strnad. He produced over 200 textile patterns between 1909 and 1950, and his aesthetic stood out among the minimalist Bauhaus designs of the time. "Every human needs a certain degree of sentimentality to feel free," Frank said... "Away with the universal styles, away with the equalization of industry and art."

AW10 Couture | Firestarter
Elie Saab
Taking inspiration from the Venetian Opera House, La Fenice, which burnt to the ground on numerous occasions, Elie Saab's couture collection showcased large scale flame prints. The references to burning embers, along with the rich amber palette, create a dramatic effect. If Drew Barrymore's character in Firestarter was to grow up, we might just find her wearing one of these.
