Retail: Opening Ceremony

Peter Jensen, Cacharel, Emma Cook, Christopher Kane

This month's issue of Elle features a very insightful story about Opening Ceremony, and its founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim. The duo have helped launch the careers of American designers like Rodarte and Alexander Wang, while exposing overseas brands like Havianas, TopShop and Tsimori Chisato to the U.S. They also pioneered the re-vitalizing of American heritage brands like Pendleton and Timberland, and bringing them into the fashion world. Today, they boast stores in New York, LA, Tokyo, and Paris.

Above are a few of our favorite picks from their online store offerings.

Copenhagen Fashion Week | Stine Goya

While it may have been storming outside on day two of the Copenhagen Fashion Week, Stine Goya's Spring/Summer 2011 Collection "The Birds Delights" was a force of its' own. The Danish designer continued her tradition of combining feminine hues with dramatic prints in wearable silhouettes. The colour palette consisted of pale earthy hues punctuated by oversized lace, marble and graphic patterns. Luxurious gold and floral headpieces were created in collaboration with the London-based accessory designer Sophie Bille Brahe and accentuated the collection.

Copenhagen Fashion Week | Mini Market

Mini Market's geometrics were interesting in color and style, some inspired by modernist Mondrian. The cool new surf line, Pret a Surf also seems to be having a De Stijl moment.

Copenhagen Fashion Week | Peter Jensen

London-based Peter Jensen has come to be known for his mischievous playfulness and almost pervy themes. Little girl elements are woven seamlessly with grown-up sex appeal and fun. The inspiration for his SS11 collection comes from the birthday party of a girl friend he admired from childhood. Themes of presents, bows, and party chains create a unique and clever print story.

Copenhagen Fashion Week | Rützou

Copenhagn fashion week started off last week, and culminated Saturday with the "World's Greatest Runway," a mile-long catwalk that stretched through a pedestrian street called "Strøget." 100,000 people lined up to watch 220 models strut AW10 collections of 200 Scandinavian brands. The regular runway shows look very enticing as well, with some very modern shapes and interesting prints. Our coverage begins with Scandinavian brand, Rützou, which showed some whimisical hand-drawn prints and graphics, as well as some interesting polka-dot lace (seen above.) The cuts and silhouettes of the garments look drapey, sexy, casual, and very wearable.
