Tromp L'oeil prints are making their way onto shoes, shirts, dresses, ipad cases and even interiors.  Agi & Sam's  Spring/Summer 2011 collection features shoes and men's wear pieces with very interesting prints like basket weave and tile.  Rachel Comey's light transluscent blouse boasts the print of a chunky cable-knit, creating a clever and humorous contrast. 

Mudpie Joins Printsource New York as Official Trend Partner

UK-based trend forecasting company Mudpie will become Printsource's official trend partner beginning with the January 9-11, 2012 show. Mudpie will create custom trend displays throughout the show featuring the exhibitors’ contemporary approach to men’s, women’s and children’s wear, as well as provide the show’s attendee an in-depth look at its trend books and online trend forecasting service.

In addition to creating the show’s trend displays, Fiona Jenvey will present two seminars highlighting key trends for the Spring/Summer 2013 season. At 10:30 am on January 9^th  Jenvey will address key men’s and women’s trends, and on January 10^th  at 11:30 am she will focus on children’s wear trends.

Rain Inspiration

Henrik Vibskov for YMC

Henrik Vibskov produced these ipad cases and socks and they are available exclusively at ymc.com.  Seen here are his signature Napal knitwear pattern. In addition to this Vibskov has also produced some wooden beaded cases reminiscent of ‘taxi drivers’ seats.

Acne x Daniel Silver

The tribal theme continues with the recent collaboration between Acne and artist, Daniel Silver. Influenced by primitive African sculpture and textiles, Silver brings his own interpretation in a series of prints for the Swedish label.

via JC Report-- We love the experimental surface applications of Alex Mattson, a London-based Menswear designer who has been making waves since his admission to the prestigious Royal College of Art. His use of the latest technologies to interpret sound and light into print is quite intriguing.

The fashion illustrations of Marcela Gutiérrez now adorn the Prada flagship stores in both New York and LA.  The project depicts models from this season's campaign, and her painting style is both full or realism and a visceral sort of abstraction.

Coming soon to an H & M near you...Look for Versace's collaboration with the Swedish retailer which spans apparel, accessories and even homewares. Available starting November 17th.

The colorful life and work of British print designer, Celia Birtwell, is celebrated in this new publication. Her beautiful hand painted prints have appeared on apparel for former husband, Ossie Clark, as well as on new collections for Topshop and John Lewis. This book is a wonderful addition to any surface designer's bookshelf.

Hello Kitty

There's a certain feeling of sophistication associated with Liberty's classic prints. So when we heard of their recent collaboration with Hello Kitty it gave us pause. However, much to our surprise, in many of the designs the iconic cat seems right at home nestled among the ditsy flowers or posed in the scenics. What do you think?
