Grunge Update

We're loving Dries van Noten's update to the grunge look. By mixing plaids with an overlaid floral, van Noten makes this traditionally masculine look feel feminine and flirty.

Fall 12 | Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana's newest collection is inspired once again by their native land of Italy, this time taking on their country's religious heritage. Some pieces were inspired by the hoods and cloaks of monks, but we were drawn to these bright woven florals, which conjure the Catholic grandma--needlepointing cushions and laying out the festive tablecloth on Sunday. Some of these are also reminiscent of religious tapestries. Combine all that with the ultra-feminine, flattering silhouettes that the Dolce & Gabbana is known for, and you get a beautiful and eye-catching collection on every level.

Floral Clogs

Clockwise: Cape Cod Wildflowers Clog, Free People, Jeffrey Campbell, N.Y.L.A., No.6
We're certainly not advocating this look, although we're sure some people can pull it off, but as your diligent print reporters, we must present to you...the floral clog. Love it or hate it, the clog trend seems to be hanging around and gaining momentum. At least they're comfortable and there are some cool ones cropping up (see TopShop, Matt Bernson, even Uggs has some new ones that aren't too bad.) Where we draw the line though is with the slouchy floral Free People boot, whom we believe nobody can pull off. If you have, however, please send us pics! Or if you are rocking any floral clog really...

Fall 10: Vintage Florals

Paul Smith Womens, Nicole Fahri, Kenzo, Cacharel
The vintage look never seems to go out of style. Current vintage print trends seem to be all about Victorian wallpaper, and Russian romance.

Spring 10: The State of Florals

Matthew Williamson, Duro Olowu, DKNY, Gaspard Yurkievich, Cynthia Rowley

Issa, Eley Kishimoto, Maurizio Pecararo, Eley Kishimoto, United Bamboo

Rebbekah Taylor, Roberto Cavalli, Christian Dior, Stella McCartney, Richard Chai
The Spring 10 shows had varying takes on the floral; from starkly graphic, to soft and smudgy, to tiny and sweet. Our favorites were Christian Dior's sexy use of the ditsy, Cynthia Rowley's smokey gorgeous florals, Eley Kishimoto's graphic flowers, and Maurizio Pecararos's pastel cut-outs.
