Grunge Update

We're loving Dries van Noten's update to the grunge look. By mixing plaids with an overlaid floral, van Noten makes this traditionally masculine look feel feminine and flirty.

Fall 11: Hot Plaids

Plaids are still going strong and this season there are some bright plaids and some interesting executions, as with Marni. Deconstruct it, saturate it, mix it up, but don't neglect the plaid for your upcoming trend directions!

Preppy has been a trend for some time now, and at the pre-fall and men's-wear shows, we see some blue-blood tartans entering the picture in a sumptuous way at Christian Dior. At Kenzo, we can reminisce about our old days at prep-school in London, and then get a swift kick of early punk from Victor & Rolf.

It's back to school time again, but no Catholic schoolgirl plaids here. Prada and Peter Som work plaids onto vintage shapes while Ivan Grundahl drapes an oversized graphic plaid with an interesting fade. Accessories are also playing with the tartan pattern, and it seems the plaid trend is not going away any time soon. The nineties have only just begun...
