Resort 13 | Marni

Marni Resort 13

It's always fun to see the latest collection from Marni. This season the label, known for its use of pattern, mixes vintage inspired prints with a 1930s and 1940s feel to create an updated and modern look.

Fall 11: Hot Plaids

Moschino Cheap and Chic, Peter Pilotti, Thakoon, Marni
Plaids are still going strong and this season there are some bright plaids and some interesting executions, as with Marni. Deconstruct it, saturate it, mix it up, but don't neglect the plaid for your upcoming trend directions!

Fall 11: Graphic Geos

Marni, Diane Von Furstenberg, Topshop Unique
Graphic geometrics appeared in heavy doses on Marni, Diane Von Furstenbert and TopShop, all with interesting takes and unique applications

Fall 11: Soft Geos

Duro Olowu, Marni, Louise Gray

Soft geometrics with an ethnic vibe were a big presence on the Fall 11 runways. Mixed prints are still big, and painted geometrics bring feel 60's but modernized with color and contemporary dress silhouettes.

Spring 11: Cut-Outs

Cynthia Rowley, Marni, Emilio de la Moreno
Cut-outs are all over the runways, from New York to Milan. Here, we see some circular punch-outs revealing interesting textures underneath. We especially love the sharp modernity of Emilio de la Moreno's collection.

Fall 10: Conversationals

Douglas Hannant, Marni, Versus, Marni

Jeremy Scott, Betsey Johnson x2, Paul Smith Women
Faces, people, animals, guns, horses and more stark geometric things (coming in the next post) are popping up in the collections of a wide range of designers. Christopher Kane uses photographs for his Versus line, as he did in his eponymous gorilla face dress for Spring 09. This time, he uses Bruce Weber's photography and photo hues become the collection's color story. Marni's abstracted simple shape faces are interesting, as is her use of chalky bright pastels.
